To give us all something to drink while we cheer on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the post season, we have created the Bucs Breeze Cocktail. For this twist on the classic Bay Breeze, we channeled our inner buccaneer and replaced the vodka with every sailor’s favorite, rum. We use coconut rum to dial up the tropical vibes, and luckily there are plenty of amazing rum distilleries in the Tampa Bay area for you to choose from. Help support local Florida and enjoy cheering on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers while drinking the Bucs Breeze. Cheers and go Bucs!
What Ingredients Do I Need for a Bucs Breeze Cocktail?
The Alcohol
We couldn’t make a Tampa Bay Buccaneers themed drink and not use rum. The spirit of choice for sailors and pirates is the only option for this cocktail. You can use white rum, but we like to use coconut rum to really dial up the tropical vibes. For this recipe, make sure that you use a rum from the Tampa Bay region. The closer to Raymond James stadium the better!
The Coconut Rum: Florida has plenty of fantastic rum distilleries, and luckily some of the best are in the Tampa Bay region. Below are our favorite coconut rums from Tampa and the surrounding area.
Recommended Coconut Rums:
- Big Five Coconut Rum- Big 5 Rum Distillery
- Oak & Palm Coconut Rum- St. Petersburg Distillery
- Gasparilla Coconut Rum – Tampa Bay Rum Company
- Coconut Breeze – 82° West Distilling

The Mixers
The Juices: Cranberries and pineapples are not grown commercially in the sunshine state, so for the fruit juices you are going to have to go out of state. Use your favorite juice from the store, you can use light versions to save on the calories but still deliver a great drink.
Recommended Cranberry Juice: Ocean Spray Diet Cranberry
Recommended Pineapple Juice: Dole Pineapple Juice
Fresh Lime Juice: If you can find them, then use Key Limes which are slightly more acidic and floral than the more common Persian lime. Depending on your location they can be difficult to find, so you can use Persian limes if you can’t find Key Limes. If you use citrus juice regularly in your cocktails and/or cooking, then buy a citrus press. They are brilliant. You yield a lot more juice out of your lemons and limes, you don’t have to worry about seeds, and you cut down on the mess of squeezing with your hands. We use a Zulay citrus press which has a two in one design that handles both lemons and limes with equally perfect results.
Recommended Juicer: Zulay Premium Citrus Press
How Should I Serve A Bucs Breeze Cocktail?
Shaken or Stirred: Any time you are making a cocktail that requires mixing fruit juices with liquor you always want to shake. This ensures everything is thoroughly mixed and ice cold. If you like to make cocktails at home then a quality cocktail shaker is a must. Our favorite shaker is the beautifully designed patterned brass shaker from Absolut Elyx Boutique. You can get $15 off your first order by using this link.
Recommended cocktail shaker: ABSOLUT ELYX BOUTIQUE Brass Patterned Cocktail Shaker. (Use this link to get $15 off your first order)
The Garnish: Garnish with a wedge of lime or fresh pineapple. As this is a Tampa Bay Buccaneers themed cocktail we like to add a Bucs flag. To really dial up the pirate theme, we use a sword shaped cocktail pick as the flag pole. There are plenty of cheap options on amazon.
Best Sword Toothpicks: Stainless Steel Reusable Sword Toothpicks
We hope you enjoy our Bucs Breeze recipe below, and as always drink local and drink responsibly. Go Bucs!
