The Tour

On the Kozuba & Sons distillery tour being early pays off in the form of a delicious welcome Moscow mule, so don’t be tardy. As you sit around the bar, your tour guide will refill your mules, before kicking off the tour by taking you through the history of the distillery. Beginning life in Poland the family run Kozuba & Son’s distillery first started producing Vodka in 2005. But seeing an opportunity to capitalize on the growing US craft distillery market (and probably also in search of some sun), Papa and the rest of the Kozuba family decided to move their business across the sea to sunny Florida.

How The Magic Happens

With Moscow Mule in hand you’ll then be led around the distillery by a friendly and informative tour guide who will show you how Kozuba & Son’s make all their delicious alcohol. The magic all happens in beautifully crafted bronze stills that are well maintained and outrageously instagramable. The small team adopts a “grain to glass” approach, so everything is handled onsite from milling, mashing, fermenting, distilling, right through to bottling (or boxing- more on that later). The space is huge and meticulously clean, with rows of plastic tubs filled with the jewel in their crown- Vodka.

The Tasting

Finally, once you’ve been shown around, it’s time to drink some Vodka, the way that Papa recommends- straight and chilled. We tried two of their Vodkas first, but don’t worry these are a heck of a lot smoother than anything you drank at college. Their potato vodka is creamy and delicious, but we slightly preferred their smooth grain vodka which they’ve branded as Coast and sell at ABC Fine Wine & Spirits. Next we tried their white whiskey which honestly wasn’t our favorite. But don’t worry Whiskey fans, you’ll also try their Mr. Rye Whiskey which is delicious. It also has the added bonus of having one of the most artistically designed bottles you’re likely to see. You’ll finish things up with their cordials, which are vodka based fruit drinks. These are made with real fruit and can be used as aperitifs or go great in cocktails. The quince cordial was tasty, but we preferred the cranberry cordial. It will certainly be making a guest appearance in every single cocktail we make come Thanksgiving/Christmas.

At Kozuba & Sons, Vodka is the overwhelming star of the show. They produce a wonderfully creamy potato vodka and an insanely smooth grain Vodka. If you’re heading to the beach, then you can always get their Vodka in a box. Yes you read that correctly, Kozuba & Sons have put their premium grain vodka in a 1.5L box, and we love them for it.

Joy in a box

Kozuba’s box vodka is the same deliciously smooth grain vodka that they bottle, but in a larger and more versatile format. You can pick up a box from Total Wine which they’ve named “B Square”, but we recommend the version that they created for ABC Fine Wine & Spirits called “Coast”. It’s exactly the same 1.75L box but with the added benefit of some of the sale going to the Florida Conservation Association. So you can be safe in the knowledge that as you sip your drink at the beach, that you’re doing your bit for Florida’s coastlines.

You can get it delivered to you by Drizly here, use code DRIZLYDEAL for $5 off or free delivery on your first order.
