What Ingredients Do I Need To Make A Fall Gin Fizz?

The Alcohol

The Gin: Florida is distilling some superb gins right now, so you have plenty to choose from for this gin cocktail recipe. One of our favorites is Magic City Gin from Big Cypress Distillery. This fabulous gin has plenty of the typical juniper and citrus notes that you would expect to find, but also brings in a note of vanilla-marzipan that plays nicely with the apple. Another great option is Old St. Pete Tropical Gin from St. Petersburg Distillery which goes heavy on the citrus with plenty of orange, lemon and grapefruit notes. Finally the velvety smooth New World Gin from St. Augustine Distillery is a great option for people that aren’t big gin lovers. This is because it is super mellow and doesn’t have a particularly big hit of juniper that you get with most gins.

The Mixers

The Apple Cider: During the fall months you will easily be able to pick this up at your local store or farmers market. Unfortunately, apples grow best in cold climates, so you won’t be buying any local Florida apple cider. The apple cider you get at the store will likely be from our friends from up north in Washington, New York and Michigan, where over 75% of our apples are grown.

The Sweetener: The homemade Spiced Apple Simple Syrup balances out the tartness of the lemon juice and adds those delicious baking spice notes that make this drink a little bundle of fall. This simple syrup is super easy to make and perfect to keep in the refrigerator to add to all your fall drinks.

Fresh Lemon Juice: The Majority of US lemon is grown in California, but there are around 600 acres of lemon groves right here in the south of Florida. If your local store or market sells Florida lemons, then great- if not you may have to make do with lemons from our Californian friends. If you are still squeezing lemons with your hands, then we recommend buying a hand juicer, they are a game-changer. We use a Zulay citrus press which handles both lemons and limes with equally perfect results.

Recommended Juicer: Zulay Premium Citrus Press

How Should I Serve A Fall Gin Fizz?

The Glass: Use a tall glass such as a highball glass. This style of glass was designed for cocktails served over ice, with the tall shape helping keep the drink cold for longer. It also helps preserve carbonation, so works well for drinks topped with club soda like the Fall Gin Fizz.

Recommended highball glass: GODINGER Highball Glasses, Set of 4

Shaken or Stirred: To make sure that the Spiced Apple Simple Syrup is properly mixed into the drink it is best to shake this cocktail. If you are looking for a new cocktail shaker, then we would recommend the beautifully designed brass shaker from Absolut Elyx Boutique

Straight up or on the rocks: On the rocks. This cocktail should be served over plenty of ice so that you can enjoy your drink long into the fall evenings.

The Garnish: Finish this fall cocktail off with some fall garnish. Add a slice of apple and a cinnamon stick and enjoy your Fall Gin Fizz.

Recommended Garnish: Cinnamon Sticks
