There’s not much that’s scarier than wondering what Florida Man is going to get up to next, so this Halloween we’ve given the classic Corpse Reviver cocktail recipe a Florida twist and created the Florida Man Reviver.

The Corpse Reviver No. 2 belongs to a family of historic cocktails that were named after their claim of being able to cure a hangover (bringing the drinker back from the dead). But regardless of whether this witchcraft is actually true or not, we’d recommend mixing up the Florida Man Reviver this Halloween. Jump To Recipe

What Ingredients Do I Need To Make A Florida Man Reviver (Corpse Reviver Cocktail Recipe)?

The Alcohol

The Gin: Florida distilleries make some fantastic Gins, so you have plenty to choose from. One of our favorites is Harry Blu’s Miami Gin which is a perfectly balanced Gin that shines in this Halloween cocktail recipe. Another great option is Magic City Gin from Big Cypress Distillery. This fabulous gin has plenty of your typical juniper and citrus notes that you would expect to find, but also brings in a note of vanilla-marzipan. For Citrus lovers a good option is Old St. Pete Tropical Gin from St. Petersburg Distillery which goes heavy on the citrus with lots of orange, lemon and grapefruit notes. Finally the velvety smooth New World Gin from St. Augustine Distillery is a great option for people that aren’t big Gin lovers. This is because it is very mellow and doesn’t have the typical big hit of juniper that you get with most gins.

The Orange Liqueur: You can use Cointreau, but Florida has their very own local version! Tippler’s made by St. Petersburg Distillery uses whole Florida oranges, peel and all. If you want to support local, then this is a great addition to your bar cart. FYI it also goes great in our Spicy Jalapeno Margarita, Florida Orange Cosmopolitan and our Grapefruit Martini.

The Cocchi Americano: The original recipe for the Corpse Reviver No 2 used a wine-based aperitif named Kina Lillet, however production stopped on this drink in the 80’s. Most modern recipes replace this with Coccho Americano Bianco which has the closest flavor profile to Kina Lillet. Cocchi Americano Bianco can also be used in a White Negroni if you’re looking for more cocktails to use this great aperitif in.

Recommended Cocchi Americano Bianco: Cocchi Americano Bianco

Alternative to Cocchi Americano: When Kina Lillet was discontinued it became what is now known as Lillet Blanc. The modern Lillet however is made to a different recipe to the original. It’s less bitter and fruitier so still works great in the recipe, however if you want something closer to the original then Cocchi Americano is the better alternative in our opinion.

The Absinthe: Absinth is an ancient drink with a distinct bright green hue. It’s distilled from three key ingredients: wormwood, anise and fennel. The result is a potent licorice flavored alcohol that is certainly an acquired taste. This Halloween cocktail uses it to “rinse” the glass, so you only use a tiny amount to coat. You could obviously skip this if you wanted, however it does add a layer of complexity with a subtle anise background note. Oh, and no you don’t need to worry, Absinthe will NOT make you hallucinate, that’s an urban legend. Besides you only use half a teaspoon in this recipe anyway, so you’ll be safe from the green fairy’s influence.

Recommended Absinthe: Lucid Absinthe Superieure

The Mixers

The Citrus:

Fresh Lemon Juice: There are around 600 acres of lemon groves right here in the south of Florida. If your local store or market sells seasonal Florida lemons, then great- if not you may have to make do with lemons from our Californian friends. If you are still squeezing lemons with your hands, then it’s time you stopped. We enthusiastically recommend buying a hand juicer, they are a game-changer. We use the Zulay citrus press which handles both lemons and limes with equally perfect results.

Recommended Juicer: Zulay Premium Citrus Press

What Equipment Should I Use For A Florida Man Reviver (Corpse Reviver Cocktail Recipe)?

The Glass: This Halloween cocktail is served straight up, so your best choice is a coupe glass. These styles of glass were specifically designed for chilled cocktails that are served straight up rather than over ice. The stem prevents your hand touching the side of the glass keeping your drink colder than a dementor’s kiss.

Recommended coupe glass: LUMINARC Coupe Glass, Set of 4

Shaken or Stirred: A Corpse Reviver should always be stirred not shaken. If you are just making one drink, then you can just stir this cocktail straight in the glass. If you are making more than one, or If you also enjoy other spirit forward classic cocktails like an Old Fashioned or Manhattan, then get yourself a mixing glass. It’s one of our most used pieces of bar equipment.

Recommended Mixing Glass: HIWARE Thick Bottom Crystal Mixing Glass, 24 oz

You can see our full list of recommended bar equipment here.

Straight up or on the rocks: Serve straight up. This Halloween cocktail should be served in a chilled glass.

The Garnish: Finish this spooky Halloween cocktail with some Halloween decorations. There are all sorts of fun cocktail garnishes on Amazon, but we love these little metal skeleton charms which we rested on the rim of the coupe glass.

Recommended Garnish: Halloween Charms

We hope you enjoy the Florida Man Reviver (Corpse Reviver Cocktail Recipe), and as always drink local and drink responsibly. Cheers, and happy Halloween!
