WHAT INGREDIENTS DO I NEED TO MAKE CANDY CORN SIMPLE SYRUP?
The Ingredients
The Candy Corn: Candy corn is synonymous with the fall season and one taste will instantly take you back to neighborhood trick or treating or thanksgiving with your grandparents. This classic tri-colored candy was obviously modelled after a corn kernel and believe it or not is thought to have been invented in the 1880s! It’s flavor has notes of buttery vanilla, marshmallow and honey which make it a perfect ingredient for simple syrup to add to fall cocktails or drizzle on pancakes. There are a few different brands that make candy corn, but we go with Brach’s, it’s America’s number one Candy Corn for a reason!
Recommended Pitcher: Brach’s Classic Candy Corn, 2.5lb Bag
The Water: When using water in cocktails, simple syrups, cooking or just drinking it throughout the day, always use filtered water. Water straight from the tap can contain tiny levels of chlorine and heavy metals. If you don’t already own one (or your refrigerator doesn’t already have a built in water filter), then we’d recommend getting yourself a Brita pitcher, we can’t live without ours.
Recommended Pitcher: BRITA Everyday Water Pitcher (10 cup)
WHAT EQUIPMENT SHOULD I USE TO MAKE CANDY CORN SIMPLE SYRUP?
Saucepan: Always look for pans that are PFA free so you can be sure that you are cooking toxin free. We love ceramic cookware as it cooks evenly, is non-stick and looks modern. A saucepan with a pouring spout and straining lid is also useful, especially if you want to make flavored simple syrups by steeping berries or fruit. Our go-to for all our saucepans and skillets is Greenpan. Not only does this company make reasonably priced pans but they are fantastic quality and look great too!
Recommended Pan: Greenpan Saucepans
HOW SHOULD I STORE MY CANDY CORN SIMPLE SYRUP?
Storage: This Toasted Marshmallow Simple Syrup can be stored in any airtight container for up to a 2 weeks (although we doubt it will last that long it’s so delicious!). If you make cocktails that use simple syrup regularly then it is worth getting yourself some storage bottles specifically for your simple syrups. Anything made for pouring liquid will work, so things like olive oil dispensers are a great option. We’ve received plenty of compliments on our cork topped jug, and everyone is always surprised when we tell them it was less than $15 from Amazon!
Recommended Storage Bottle: BORMIOLI ROCCO Cork Topped Oil Bottle, (8oz)
Funnel: Transferring your homemade simple syrup to a container can be a messy job, so to save your kitchen counter we’d recommend buying a funnel. There are lots of affordable silicone funnels on Amazon which are food grade and easy to clean. We’d also recommend getting the collapsible kind to save space in your kitchen cupboards.
Recommended Funnel: RIENAR Silicone Collapsible Funnel (2 Pack)
