WHAT INGREDIENTS DO I NEED FOR A BEACH PUNCH COCKTAIL?
THE ALCOHOL
Wicked Dolphin Distillery has a whole selection of rums ranging from their super smooth crystal and gold rums to their tasty coconut, pineapple, and mango flavored rums. The Beach Punch Cocktail recipe utilizes two of their rums that perfectly complement one another; Black Rum and Vanilla Rum.
The Black Rum: Wicked Dolphin’s black rum is packed with rich molasses flavor that makes this the perfect rum for mixing into any tropical style drink. Pairing particularly well with pineapple and mango, we like to use this as a floater in our summer cocktails. It also goes great in a classic dark ’n stormy recipe, so if ginger beer is your thing, then you have to get yourself some of this.
Recommended Black Rum: Wicked Dolphin Black Rum
The Vanilla Rum: Wicked Dolphin excels at flavored rums, and their vanilla bean rum is our absolute favorite. Blended with Madagascar vanilla beans, this stuff is the real deal. Forget other artificial tasting flavored rums or vodkas you’ve tasted in the past; this rum brings a fantastic natural vanilla flavor that will level up any cocktail that you add it to. It is also perfect for mixing with cold brew or nitro to make a delicious spiked vanilla coffee.
Recommended Vanilla Rum: Wicked Dolphin Vanilla Bean Rum
The Amaretto: Amaretto is an Italian liqueur that has a distinct sweet almond flavor. In this recipe it really ties all the flavors together and plays beautifully with the vanilla rum. We use Disaronno Originale Amaretto which amazingly has been in production since 1525. Despite the almond flavor, it isn’t made with almonds- it gets its flavor from Apricot kernels. If you are a fan of marzipan, then you will love this liqueur.

THE MIXERS
The Juices: For this beach punch cocktail recipe, use your favorite juice from the store. Feel free to use light versions to save on the calories, these still make a great drink. Most of the orange juice that is available at the supermarket will be made from local Florida oranges, so pick whatever is on special. Our go to is typically Tropicana. Cranberries are not grown commercially in Florida, so for this ingredient you are going to have to go out of state. We typically use Ocean Spray.
Recommended Orange Juice: Tropicana 100% Orange Juice
Recommended Cranberry Juice: Ocean Spray Diet Cranberry Juice
Fresh Lemon Juice: Some lemons are grown here in Florida, but most are farmed out west in California. If you can find local lemons at a farmers market, or you grow them in your garden, then great. If not, you will have to make do with lemons from our friends over in California. Whenever you are making cocktails at home, always use freshly squeezed lemon. The bottled stuff has an artificial taste that will spoil your drink. You can squeeze lemons with your hands, but this is messy and you won’t yield as much juice. We’d recommend buying yourself a citrus juicer, they are brilliant. We use a Zulay citrus press which handles both lemons and limes with equally perfect results. Check out our full list of recommended bar equipment here.
Recommended Juicer: Zulay Premium Citrus Press
HOW SHOULD I SERVE A BEACH PUNCH COCKTAIL?
Shaken or Stirred: You will definitely want to shake this cocktail to insure all the ingredients are properly mixed and ice cold. If you like to make homemade cocktails, then a good quality cocktail shaker is a must. Our favorite shaker is the beautifully designed patterned brass shaker from Absolut Elyx Boutique. Recommended cocktail shaker: ABSOLUT ELYX BOUTIQUE Brass Patterned Cocktail Shaker. (Use this link to get $15 off your first order)
The Garnish: Garnish with a wedge of lemon and a cocktail cherry or two. We always use Luxardo Maraschino Cherries. These delicious little gems are expensive, but they are worth every penny. Definitely a staple for the bar cart, especially if you enjoy an Old Fashioned or a Manhattan.
Recommended Cherries: LUXARDO Maraschino Cherries, 14.1 oz
We hope you enjoy your Beach Punch Cocktail, and as always drink local and drink responsibly. Cheers!
